Story
Stave's Sazerac
Main House Beverage Manager Kelly Schmidt created a cocktail inspired by the addictive, and sometimes maddening, fun of puzzling.
It’s a stronger drink, meant to be enjoyed slowly, making it the ideal cocktail for sipping by the fire while taking on a puzzle! And Kelly added the lavender syrup as a little hint of calm for those moments when you just can’t find that piece you’re searching for. Cheers!
Stave’s Sazerac
- 1.5 oz. Woodford Reserve Rye Whiskey
- ½ oz. Lavender syrup*
- 3 dashes Peychaud’s bitters
- ¼ oz. Herbsaint (anise-flavored liqueur)
Rinse your rocks glass with the ¼ oz. of Herbsaint. Discard excess.
Note: To rinse a glass, put a small amount of liquid in and swirl the glass so the liquid coats the bottom and sides.
Add all other ingredients to a mixing tin, and stir with ice until very cold.
Strain the cocktail into your rocks glass over one large ice cube.
Garnish with lemon peel.
*To make the lavender syrup, we steep a cup of dried lavender buds in a pint of boiling water for five minutes. Then we filter out the buds and add two cups of sugar, and mix together until fully combined.
