Our Farmstead team works hard year-round to create delicious flavors that celebrate Blackberry and our region. Each year, they send in some of their delicious creations to be judged at the annual Good Food Awards.

“Not only do our products have to go through a blind judging, but they also have to go through a vetting process. Knowing that our products meet the high standards of the Good Food Awards for quality and sustainability is really rewarding,” said Cheesemaker Chris Osborne.

While the 2021 award ceremony was a little different as finalists and judges connected virtually, it was packed with the same amount of incredible flavor and spirit as it always is. Selected from 1,928 entries, we’re cheering for four Blackberry Farm products that topped the 2021 awards list: Singing Brook, Brebis and Ramp Spread, Magnolia and Appalachian Coppa!

Singing Brook is an aged sheep’s milk cheese with a hard ring. Each wheel is aged for a minimum of five to six months. Best served at room temperature, our flagship cheese is rich, nutty and buttery with a sharpness reminiscent of a Manchego.

Try it: Singing Brook is perfect to slice and set out on your next cheese board. When you’re ready to try it in a recipe, stir some shredded Singing Brook into your grits for a delicious breakfast!
SHOP SINGING BROOK

Ramps are one of our favorite ingredients at Blackberry Farm. We harvest and preserve ramps in the Spring to make our Brebis and Ramp Spread. The onion and garlic flavor from the ramps mixed with our creamy Brebis cheese creates a delicious, savory flavor combination, and utilizing the ramp greens gives the spread a beautiful color.

“Although I am proud that all three of the cheeses won, I am especially happy to see Brebis and Ramp won an award. Ramps are such a special and unique ingredient that is native to Appalachia. Being able to marry the ramp flavors with our brebis highlights the quality of the cheese without being overwhelming.” – Chris

Try it: Use Brebis and Ramp Spread as a dip for your favorite raw vegetables, like carrots and radishes, or spread over bread and enjoy.
SHOP BREBIS AND RAMP SPREAD

Magnolia is essentially Blackberry’s version of a Camembert cheese. It is a rich and luscious cheese with a slight tang that allows a mild sheep's milk flavor to come through. It’s named after the Magnolia tree, which produces a white blossom, or bloom, and the Magnolia cheese is referred to as a bloomy-rinded cheese because of the white mold rind.

Try it: This one should definitely join Singing Brook on your next cheese board display. Then, try it in our delicious reimagining of a classic sandwich, a Southern Rueben.
SHOP MAGNOLIA

Appalachian Coppa is a prized Italian cured meat recognized for its beautiful marbling. It is a whole muscle cut from the neck of local Black Duroc hogs. We’ve taken some Southern liberties in our preparation by beginning with a cure of sea salt and brown sugar and washing it away in Tennessee whiskey.

The meat is then coated in a generous paste of peppers grown in Blackberry’s garden, smoked and hung to dry in our salumeria for four months.

Try it: This charcuterie is great on charcuterie boards and on sandwiches. Or grab it by the slice for a delicious and easy snack throughout the day!
