Unfold

Blackberry Farm friend and expert yoga instructor Charlotte Hardwick shares her thoughts on the idea of unfolding with Spring and utilizing yoga to support you this season.

To unfold is to expand.

I feel and see this unfolding during moments of teaching and practicing yoga. Shoulders coming down, unfolding. Jaw softening, unfolding. Heart opening, unfolding. Deep breath, unfolding. Clear mind, unfolding.

With yoga, we are rinsing away the old, the tight and the stagnant to feel this expansion. We unfold layers with each breath as we integrate the heart, body and mind. Yoga is not a magic cure-all, but the many ways it challenges us, moves us forward, and allows moments of quiet to feel how we really are leads us to evolve.

The yoga poses and postures are an invitation to unravel the knots, and the breath comes in to untangle the mind. I like to feel that with each inhale, I am filling my body, and with each exhale, I am clearing. Yoga creates space and unveils layers of protection that we have built around our hearts so we can love our bodies just as they are – unfolding our expectations.

Yoga is, above all else, a path of surrender, of trust. It’s a window into feeling and seeing the beauty in our everyday. Moving away from contraction, spacious unfolding.

As we head into this glorious new Spring season and the world is coming to life with new blooms and buds, how can you give yourself the gift of time to unfold?
