What's Inn a Name
When asked about the history of Blackberry Farm, we always start with how our beautiful property got its name.
In the 1930's, Florida and Dave Lasier were enthralled by the majesty of these mountains and, on a trip from Chicago to the Georgia coast, discovered the perfect setting for their dream home. In 1930, while selecting just the right location, Florida snagged her silk stockings in a thicket of blackberry bushes, and the name Blackberry Farm was born.
The Jarvis family was next to own Blackberry Farm. The story continues, of course, to 1976 when the Beall family were equally enthralled by this land.
Each family always keeping that iconic name.
In 1976, the charm of Blackberry Farm captivated Kreis and Sandy Beall and inspired their own dream of sharing a magical property with good food and friends. Kreis made Blackberry the family's home and opened the beautiful property to the public as a six-room country inn. The Bealls' vision for Blackberry Farm became a reality and began to create a tradition of Southern hospitality, gourmet cuisine and cherished experiences.
By 1990, the Main House and Guest House had evolved into 23 guest rooms, and the Beall family had coined the name The Inn at Blackberry Farm®. On the cover of the first brochure, the catchphrase reads, “A jewel in a setting of unbelievable scenic beauty.”
For 43 years the property has evolved and grown. There are more guest rooms, more activities, more facilities, more programming and certainly more wine.
But there is always a classic charm and respect for the history of the area that remains in everything. Just like that iconic name that has stuck with this land for nearly nine decades – Blackberry Farm.
