Wellness in the Winter

January 27, 2025
Wellness in the Winter

January is often fueled by fresh inspiration and motivation for the new year, but as the weeks pass and the Winter season ensues, it’s also a time to slow down and give deeper thought to the best way to meet individual goals.

From a wellness perspective, kicking the year off with frequent, high intensity exercise can feel immediately energizing and quickly satisfy a desire for change. However, more thoughtful, intentional movement that builds in complexity might be a more sustainable wellness approach, especially for beginners. It’s also crucial to not lose sight of balancing mental and spiritual wellness by only focusing on physical practices.

Wellness Supervisor Caitlin West imagined two new classes at Blackberry Farm with the importance of harmony and accessibility serving as inspiration. Learn more about each class and find out what to expect at the Wellhouse this Winter!

Alchemy: Meditation for Transformation

With the 2025 theme for our Blackberry Year being Alchemy, we wanted to offer a class that would highlight how change in perspective and unique combinations of energy can transform the ordinary into something magical.

In this guided meditation, guests will explore the five elements – earth, air, water, fire and ether (space) – and how they are present in our inner and outer experiences. From the grounding energy of the earth to the fiery nature of creation, every aspect of our existence is informed by these elements.

We will use breathwork and visualization to cultivate awareness of the elements, intentionally harness their qualities and combine them in creative ways to encourage and support transformation – the very definition of alchemy!

*Alchemy: Meditation for Transformation is available for private bookings only.

Movement for Longevity

It is our hope that every guest who visits us leaves with a renewed sense of purpose and a dedication for caring for themselves in the same way we strive to care for them here. With that in mind, we developed this class to offer essential information and simple practices to ensure our guests can care for their bodies, move freely, live independently and enjoy life for as long as possible!

This class is a combination of practical education and targeted movement to keep guests moving well for life. We begin with the simplest of movement to warm the body – walking (preferably outdoors, as weather allows) – and progress to more focused functional movements that mirror activities of daily living. These movements include bending, reaching, moving from seated to standing and back again, etc.

We will offer education on maintaining a healthy spine and joints as well as teach simple practices for guests to take home and continue to care for themselves long after their stay with us. This class purposely uses no props and instead focuses on practices that can be done anytime, anywhere!

*Movement for Longevity is available as a group class or private booking.
