Treasure Hunting on the Farm

The Blackberry Farm adventure guides invite you to embark on a treasure hunt-style adventure that will take you all around the Farm looking for hidden gems: Geocaching.

Geocaching is a world-wide phenomenon that combines geography exploration and hidden treasures, uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to find specific locations of hidden objects. At the Farm, our experience combines geocaching and letterboxing. In general, letterboxing tasks you with following clues to find what’s hidden where geocaching is based on locations found with your GPS. Combining them gives you the best of both experiences!

Our adventure guides created the geocaching activity as an opportunity for guests to explore property in a fun and unique way, while learning a bit about the Farm and the hobby of geocaching. Our Geocaching Trail offers a more loop-based and “off course” adventure than the other hiking trails available on property. The design of the course elevates the experience and presents opportunities to learn about botany and the land. Enjoyed by children and adults alike, this is the perfect family activity. Your group can form teams or work together as one, hunting down caches – the hidden treasures – including knickknacks, fun facts, pamphlets and more.

Geocaching requires a map, longitude and latitude coordinates, a sharp eye and a hunger for adventure. As you set forth navigating to each set of coordinates, keep an eye out for small containers hidden deep along the journey. Some hiding places are trickier than others – that’s all part of the fun. Keep a sharp eye and your hand-held GPS close, you’re going to need them.

Want to experience geocaching beyond the Farm? Geocaching is a great hobby and is available in most cities and local parks. You can connect with other geocachers around the world and follow some really incredible adventures. You can even get creative and build your own geocaching adventure for family and friends to enjoy. Just remember when creating, trinkets and nonperishable items are best when deciding what to hide for others. You want to be thoughtful about the environment and use containers that will protect unknowing animals from discovering your treasure. And of course, have fun with it!
