The Write Way to Say Thank You
Writing a personal thank you note should never be a lost art. Taking a moment to write down your appreciation will leave a lasting impression, and it means even more in today’s world of quick, digital interaction. From the paper to the message, use these tips to help you craft a thoughtful thank you.
Be Specific and Personal
Don’t simply write "thank you" and seal your envelope. Include specific details about the occasion or action that you’re showing gratitude for. If you’re sending a thank you note for a well-thrown party, reference a great conversation you had with your host or your favorite bite of the night. If you’re thanking someone for a gift, let them know what you’re excited to use the gift for or how well it aligns with something you would have picked for yourself.
Show Sincerity
There’s no need to exaggerate your praise. You want the gesture to be genuine, so don’t overdo it by overstating. Take your time to craft a thoughtful, organized sentiment – handwritten of course. Don’t be afraid show your humor in the message. Think about how you would address the person face-to-face, and write with the same personality.
Use Quality Stationery
It’s always a good idea to have a nice set of stationery on hand. Whether it’s a fun, bright pattern or an elegant monogrammed set, quality cards with complementary envelopes are much more attractive than plain, folded paper, and they add an additional layer of personalization. Use a good pen with ink that won’t bleed to keep the note clean and legible.
