The Power of Undoing

The Power of Undoing

In the increasingly busy world in which we reside, we have begun to view rest as inactivity. We entertain the misconception that if we momentarily withdraw from work, carpool or laundry that this brief pause can somehow lesson or diminish our daily yield.

Taking a step away shouldn’t feel like a step backward. In fact, a short absence of doing can instead create calm, clarity and a sense of balance to the activity of our daily lives. Just as rest is essential for the physical body, quiet time for reflection and inner contemplation allows us to return to ourselves and remember our true nature.

In this quiet space we are able to process our thoughts and emotions and find focus and inspiration. Nature easily reminds us that haste and a constant sense of urgency is often unnecessary. Beginning the day with a warm cup of coffee and stepping outside can set an intention of presence. Skipping the morning slippers and feeling earth beneath the feet can connect us to the moment and to ourselves. Present moment practices in nature help us find clarity and a sense of ease and relaxation that can remain with us throughout the day.

Time without movement or planning unfortunately doesn’t just show up for us. This too takes effort. Often, we must actively stop doing to start being.
