The leaves, they are changing!
As we take a deep breath and give thanks for the recent relief from Summer’s heat wave, we are suddenly reminded the Fall is just a few short weeks away. In the South, we are lucky to be able to hang on to Summer’s bounty for just a bit longer than our northern brethren. This becomes a season where lines are blurred, when melons, tomatoes and okra could share the same menu as apples, sweet potato greens and persimmons. We are truly blessed to have the opportunity to not have to rush into Fall, but to ease into the cooler season, and at the same time enjoy a few of Summer's final treasures. In the mountains of East Tennessee, the mark of Fall could be as much of a happening rather than a date. When persimmons fall and the frost nips the last of Summer's hold outs, then you know it is official.
