Tall Glass of Water
June is here! We are coming into the longest and warmest days of the year. Finding ways to move and use our bodies during summer while staying hydrated and replacing the lost minerals can be challenging. The adult human is made up of up to 75% water. The body needs water for everything from organ function to temperature regulation. Our skin is the largest organ of the human body. When we lose water through our skin it is healthy and cleansing. Sweating helps your body get rid of toxins and cleanses your skin. Sweating gets our circulation going and increases our metabolism as well as boosts our immune system. At the Wellhouse you can engage in any of our offered fitness activities or sit in the steam room before or after your spa treatment. Your skin’s pores open and impurities in the surface layers have a chance to exit.
The word Spa comes from a Latin phrase “Sanitas per Aqua” or health through water. The origin of Spa can be traced back to the Belgium town Spa. In the town Spa there was a fountain containing iron rich water. The story goes that a local was cured by bathing in this water and he proceeded to start a health resort using this healing water. We can see that from the early days mineral rich sources of water have drawn people for health benefits. Unless you live by the ocean or a mineral rich spring try a soak in Epsom salt baths a few times a week. These salts contain critical elements and soaking in them will allow your body to absorb all the healthful benefits, which range from reducing inflammation to improved sleep and muscle and nerve function.
Here’s to a good daily sweat and tall glass of water!
