Story
Smoky Mountain Sling
Sommelier Greg Wilson is mixing up a bourbon-based, modern twist on a sling for the Dogwood’s beverage menu. A sling is an old style of cocktail originating from the principle of mixing spirit, sugar and water. The word sling is derived from the German word Schlingen, which translates as to swallow or gulp – think super drinkable. Shake up your own Smoky Mountain Sling at home, and enjoy!
2 oz. Buffalo Trace bourbon
¾ oz. pineapple juice
¾ oz. vanilla simple syrup*
½ oz. lemon
½ oz. Aperol
2 dashes Angostura bitters
2 dashes orange bitters
Add all ingredients to a shaker tin.
Shake for 10 seconds, and strain over ice.
Garnish with an orange slice.
Cheers!
*Use your favorite vanilla syrup, or create your own by infusing a traditional simple syrup with four vanilla pods, seeded.
