Shandy in the Afternoon

Shandy in the Afternoon

3 oz. chilled Champagne or sparkling wine
3 oz. Chilled Stout Beer
1 Brown Sugar Cube
1 drop Absinthe
1 dash Fee Brothers Whiskey Barrel Aged Bitters

In a champagne flute add the sugar cube, absinthe and bitters trying to get as much of the liquid as possible on the sugar cube. Add the champagne and then top off with the beer.

This cocktail is a cross of two classic cocktails with a bit of a twist. A Shandy and Death in the Afternoon. The Shandy is typically a cocktail consisting of beer and a citrus soda, ginger beer or cider. Death in the Afternoon, a Hemingway favorite, is champagne and absinthe. We decided to take the two and mix them together. Of course we left out the citrus soda in favor of making a Shandy cocktail Hemingway would aspire to drink. The sugar cube adds a bit of needed sugar and the bitters round out the rest of the flavors.
