Row, row, row and float
According to my dad, the “Dog Days” begin in July and last into August. An old term dating from ancient Rome, the “Dog Days” are the hottest days of the summer. According to The Old Farmer’s Almanac, the “Dog Days” are 40 consecutive days from July 3 through August 11. References to the “Dog Days” can even be found in the earliest editions of The Book of Common Prayer and the King James Bible.
All that is to say, it’s hot. And even though our love of intense adventure keeps us climbing mountains, running trails, and riding roads, eventually it’s time to relax. That’s when we take to the lake for a leisurely paddle and swim. A canoe can carry a cooler, snacks, some snorkels and fins, and maybe even your dog (remember, he’s hot too)!
August is a perfect time to find your favorite swimming hole and splash and swim...or maybe just float!
