Party Play Book

January 23, 2013
The Super Bowl is just around the corner! You've got a few friends over to watch the game on the big screen, and you need a game plan! We gathered up the best moves from our top entertaining players at Blackberry Farm and came up with a quarter-by-quarter plan to keep you and your friends munching and sipping through pre game, all four quarters and post game coverage. Now, drop those tortilla chips and store bought salsa ideas, and put together a spread worthy of an MVP-H (Most Valuable Party "Host”)!

Pre Game

Everyone likes a good pre-game, but keep in mind this could be a big night, especially if your team wins and even more important if your team is the loser. So, as folks walk in the door, hand them a glass of water and say "chug!" Staying hydrated is essential to keeping the ball in play this night. You will want something tasty already on the table and an easy cocktail to whip up and one that will go well for everyone. We are suggesting a big bowl of Pimento Cheese and Pickled Okra. The combo is killer on a night like this and a perfect way to surprise your guest and get their taste buds started off right. Have some multi-grain toast points or crackers on hand for the big delivery.

1st quarter

After the kick off, all eyes are on the screen, so make sure you have a snack that is safe for blind handling. We would pull out the Heirloom Pimento Cheese Popcorn for our first big play. Easy to reach, great to eat! Wash that down with a Blackberry Farm Farm Ale or your favorite Saison style beer.

2nd quarter

Now the real heart of the game is in play. Some friends have walked away from the screen while others are jumping up in cheering, but at least everyone has settled into a spot in the room and looking for a moment to sneak an extra snack. Put down some Singing Brook Cheese and a dollop of Blackberry Jam. A touchdown for sure, this combo has the perfect balance and just a touch of sweetness to revive those tastebuds. We would pair this with a pale ale for its balance. Of course, we love our Blackberry Farm Pale Ale, but since it is on a waiting list try picking up a suitable replacement player with a Belgian style pale Ale!

Half Time

Half time means you’ve got time. You can look for a big show or a wardrobe malfunction, or drive your guests back to the table. Go with an easy combo – Beans and Cornbread with a little chow chow on top. You can grab a Beans and Cornbread kit and pick up a jar of Tennessee Chow Chow from our store. Or whip up a batch of Singing Brook Mac And Cheese – check out the recipe here.

We like to wash all of this down with a delicious Rhone style wine so we are calling in Tablas Creek for the play.

3rd quarter
Here is the real defining moment of the game and your party so you want to come out refreshed from half time and ready to really take the ball down the field. So we are suggesting that you put out some Pickled Ramps and Charcuterie. Pickled Ramps are definitely giving your guest a surprise play. You will score extra points for giving them something new and completely unique not to mention delicious! Serve those on crackers or lavosh and give a total refresher with the a nice dry Riesling.

4th quarter
At this point some one is celebrating, somebody is yelling or maybe both are on pins and needles if it's a close game. So you want to pullout something that is a safe call…Kettle Corn. Won’t get too messy, cleans up easy and tasty! Have Champagne on hand for the winners and some Elmer T Lee Whiskey for those needing a little medicine for their heartbreak.

Post Game
The game is done. The winners are still celebrating their great plays and close calls. The losers are lamenting about their woulda, shoulda, coulda moments. But in the end, it is time to close down the party, and do so with a sweet moment to take them right to bed. Teensy’s cookie mix – definitely a home run (whoops wrong sport, but you get it!) and have a glass of port.
