On the Side

On the Side

We asked team members from Blackberry Farm and Blackberry Mountain to share the side dishes that are a must-have at their Thanksgiving celebrations. See what they’re most looking forward to on the table!

“My family’s mustard macaroni and cheese is my all-time favorite. So much so that my family will fight over who gets the extra mustard version. It’s THAT good.”
– Alyssa Hoo, Three Sisters Sous Chef at Blackberry Mountain

“My favorite Thanksgiving side dish is the stuffing my dad has been making us for as long as I can remember. It’s just regular stovetop stuffing, but mixed with browned country sausage and sauteed mushrooms. Once it’s mixed together, we bake it until the top is crusty and golden brown (which is my favorite part).”
– Bryan Begbie, Fly Fishing Instructor at Blackberry Farm and Blackberry Mountain

“Each year, we have my grandma’s creamed corn and, of course, mashed potatoes. They both must make an appearance on the table come Thanksgiving Day. Having both brings a little piece of what I grew up with into adulthood.”
– Grant Houghtalen, Barn Sous Chef at Blackberry Farm

“My favorite Thanksgiving side dish is stuffing! In my family, we have always made stuffing more of a center piece to our Thanksgiving table rather than a side dish. We cover our stuffing with pieces of puff pastry that are decorated with difficult cut out shapes and designs. Each year, it is a fun family activity that everyone gets to add their own special touch to.”
– Savannah Sullivan, Senior Events Manager at Blackberry Farm

“It’s ironic because I don’t even like sweet potatoes, but I love sweet potato casserole with marshmallow topping, sprinkled with brown sugar and candied pecan pieces. This is one of my favorite Thanksgiving treats that goes perfectly with some slow roasted turkey. Yum yum!”
– Josh Jayne, Director of Lodging at Blackberry Mountain

Now that we’re all hungry, what’s the side dish you’re looking forward to most this holiday season?
