May Bucket List

Here's what not to miss for this month! (in no particular order)

Fly fish a Tailwater

Spring in East Tennessee is arguably the best time of year to fish. Opportunities for excellent dry fly fishing, highly productive days, and picture perfect weather are some of the reasons why we love spring so much. Of all of the places to go, the tailwaters of the Clinch and Holston rivers are not to be missed. To fish these rivers takes a full day as you float down the sometimes 100 yard wide rivers below Norris or Cherokee dams. But don’t let the length scare you away, as you can be rewarded with amazing sulphur and caddis hatches, bringing every eager mouth to your fly, making a truly memorable trip.

Something to Toast
This month and only in May, we’re pouring Dom Perignon by the glass at night. Start dinner with this incredible Champagne.

All In
May is the time when we plant over 50 varieties of heirloom tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants. Visit the garden to hear the stories of these unique and delicious old-time vegetables.

Join a Wildflower Hike
Blackberry Farm is in the midst of one of the best wildflower areas of the country. With over 1,400 species of flowering plants in our backyard, you can see dozens of different species in bloom at any point between March and November. However, the peak of blooming wildflowers is in late spring. Our guides can show you where to find beautiful patches of wild hydrangeas or the rare lady slipper orchids.

Take Flight
Following a visit from Dirk Niepoort at the beginning of the month, we’re excited to offer flights of his single vintage tawny ports going back to 1934.

Metamorphosis
Flutter by the butterfly house in the garden to discover beautiful, newly-emerging pollinators and the plants that they love.

Prepare your Skin for Summer
With the warm summer months approaching, all of us should get ready to spend a little extra time in the sun. At our Farmhouse Spa, take part in a rejuvenating facial or clarifying back treatment. These custom experiences are designed to cleanse your skin while restoring it to a youthful look.

Letter Boxing at Blackberry
Rich in tradition dating back to the 1800s, but now brought back to life in the form of geocaching, this old fashioned treasure hunt utilizes a modern GPS to find hidden caches around property. Each cache contains a letter that, when all are found and arranged, hold the key to a Blackberry treasure redeemable in the Oak Gift Shop. Join our adventure team to learn about the history and the hunt.
