Makers Series: Swans Island
The 2019 Blackberry Catalog celebrates talented artisans and beautiful creations with a special Makers Series, putting the spotlight on some of our great partners who share a passion for style and uncompromised quality. The relationship between Blackberry Farm and Swans Island Company is a beautiful representation of an opportunity for our guests to take a piece of the Farm home with them.
Sheep have dotted Tennessee’s foothills since the early 1900s. They have become part of the agrarian traditions we celebrate – traditions we pay tribute to with our series of throws and blankets made in partnership with Swans Island.
A fixture in our fields for years, sheep have long been part of Blackberry Farm’s picturesque experience. As a working farm, though, these friendly animals have contributed much more than just a picture-perfect addition to our meadows. Their rich, pure milk has been transformed into award-winning cheeses, and our sheep’s soft, warm fleeces are being transformed too. Working with the talented craftspeople of Maine’s renowned Swans Island Company, a new range of blankets, throws and a beautiful scarf has been crafted with a mixture of our flock’s premium wool. Located in a 19th-Century farmhouse in Maine, the Swans Island team shares the same ideals that distinguish Blackberry Farm: respect for tradition and craft, dedication to quality and passion for thoughtful design. These shared commitments are apparent in the meticulously crafted, heirloom-quality textiles, all of which have been designed in an elegantly understated style in partnership with Proprietor Mary Celeste Beall. From Blackberry Farm’s fields to Swans Island’s historic workroom, these limited-edition throws weave a full-circle story of heritage and tradition—from the Farm, to the loom, to your home.
