Makers Series Pretentious Glass Co.

October 18, 2018
Makers Series Pretentious Glass Co.

For the second release in our Makers Series we’re raising a glass with Pretentious Glass Company. Pretentious has crafted their reputation on creating artistic, handblown glassware designed to accentuate the character and craft of the unique beer it serves.

Specific glassware plays an important and interesting role in accentuating the distinct personalities of different beers and wines. Few people know this better than Knoxville-based glassblower Matthew Cummings of Pretentious Glass Co. A long-time friend of the Blackberry Farm Brewery team, Cummings founded Pretentious to celebrate the relationship between well-crafted libations and well-crafted glassware, a philosophy that aligns beautifully with Blackberry Farm’s love of a great beverage.

Roy Milner, Blackberry Farm Brewery’s Chief Fermentation Officer and resident beer expert, teamed up with Cummings to create three distinct, new beer glass designs exclusive to Blackberry Farm. Individually crafted, signed and conceived to showcase the personalities of three different beer styles, each detail has been carefully considered—from glass height, to bowl shape, to the degree the outer wall tapers, to the delicately rolled rim. One of the three designs in The Brewer Series is a special limited release featuring an etched profile of the Great Smoky Mountains.
The Pretentious-Blackberry Farm collaboration goes beyond beer. Working with Proprietor Mary Celeste Beall and the Blackberry Farm Beverage team, Pretentious has crafted two styles of glass decanter, with matching stemless wine glasses for each line. The Lumina features a delicate swirl pattern around the glass while the Timeless line is a celebration of classic style.
