Lush Summer Garden Horseback Rides
Inquire about our Field and Stream horseback ride for a unique garden vantage point!
Our Field and Stream ride is more than fields and streams! Once you spend a few minutes getting to know your horse, you’ll be off on a leisurely summer ride across Blackberry Farm. On a sunny summer day we’ll splash through Hesse Creek, safe and dry atop sure footed horses. We’ll wander in and out of the woods, exploring its cool shady depths and undulating trails. Eventually we will venture across open fields of grass and find ourselves by the garden, our most requested destination! Several sites at the garden’s edge offer sweeping vistas of the lush bounty found there—rich in corn, squash, okra and berries. Like a well-planned and executed painting, the garden at Blackberry offers visual pleasure and variety in color, texture and design. If we are lucky, one of the Master Gardeners, John or Jeff, will take a few moments to share their thoughts on recent harvests, new growth and, of course, the weather! Some days they will offer up small trays of ripe heirloom tomatoes—so delicious—each with a distinct flavor. Don’t let your horse get to them first! As summer progresses, we will taste wild blackberries growing along the fence and later, ripe, plump muscadines-- without ever leaving the saddle. Advanced riders will enjoy a brisk trot or canter through the hazelnut orchard where truffles grow underground and the placement of the trees makes a natural obstacle course to weave in and out. From late summer and through fall, the sunflowers will blossom. These are my favorites! At horse height, they are breathtaking in both size and quantity and will be swarming with gorgeous tiny goldfinches—a visual spectacle!
Don’t miss the opportunity to explore our garden from horseback. It looks as good as it tastes!
