Keep Your Eyes up this Fall
Gone are the dog days of summer! September is a time for looking up. Spring starts in the valleys here and wicks its way to the top of Ole Smoky, where the growing season is short. Fall then begins on the heights and slowly tumbles it way down to the valley floor. So it is that one may visit here in September and enjoy the same vibrant colors and cool temperatures at five to seven thousand feet of elevation that the great crowds of folks who wait until October will be seeking at lower elevations.
The sapphire blue skies of September call out this amazing time. The monarch butterfly and great flights of raptors from the north will soar through the mountains at this time. The massive oaks in the surrounding hills will festoon themselves with acorns and languid bears.
Butterflies tagged in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park by Blackberry guests and staff will journey all the way to Mexico where they will congregate in sufficient numbers to blanket the spruce forest at 10,000 feet above sea level. Right here in our front yard as many as 5,600 broad winged hawks have been seen crossing the spine of Chilhowee Mountain in a single day!
The Adventure team at Blackberry Farm invites you to join us as we revel in one of the most marvelous months of the year. Keep your eyes up!
