July Bucket List
SUP
It stands for Stand Up Paddleboarding. This old school activity is becoming the hottest trend in the outdoor industry. Our adventure team likes to take our paddleboards down to Lake Tellico where a relaxing paddlboard trip is the best way to enjoy the summer weather. Swim, paddle, relax, and learn something new.
Follow the Sun
Visit the garden to see the iconic plantings of spectacular sunflowers. Learn the history and uses of this ancient flower from our master gardeners.
Celebrate Summer with Riesling
Sample a glass of incredible dessert Riesling as part of our Summer of Riesling Celebration.
Hike a Little Higher
By July, the National Park is busy with people, but we know where to find solitude and cool air. Some spectacular trails our guides hike regularly can be both off the beaten path and can take you back a season with high temperatures in the 70s. Let us know if you’re interested, it can be a nice relief.
Gravellin’ Taters
Help us dig for your supper by searching for tasty heirloom potatoes underground. Each row is a treasure chest waiting to be tasted!
Smallmouth
Warmer temperatures of July switch our attention from trout to the smallmouth bass. Don’t let the name fool you, as this fish is known to be, pound for pound, one of the hardest fighting fish around. We chase these fish floating the Holston River, or wade fishing the Little River. There is nothing like casting a popper or clauser minnow in the perfect spot, only to be rewarded with a take from a smallmouth bass.
Be Bubbly
Start your meal with a glass of the famed champagne, Dom Perignon. It is only available by the glass this July.
Love those Love Apples
July heralds the time of bounty for our dozens of varieties of heirloom tomatoes. Pluck one from the vine, field heat and all, and bite right in. Bring a bib!
Not Blue Nun
Try a bottle of Grand Cru German Riesling that is stunningly dry and refreshing (definitely not Blue Nun!) during July as we revel in Summer of Riesling. Ask your sommelier about this nationwide celebration.
Heels down, Up and over
Summertime is a great time to begin training for the fall riding season. If you are a foxhunter or just an avid rider, you must try our Hunter Pace ride. Based off of fox hunting, it follows a cross country trail filled with natural jumps of all sizes. If competent and confident, you can choose to tell your horse to jump it, but if not, you always have the option to go around.
Plum Good
Our reserve products are special because they are made from seasonally available products in a limited number. The Larder just rolled out a Roasted Plum Jam - get’em before they are gone! SUP
