January Bucket List
Winter Dry Fly Fishing
During the winter months, trout are usually a bit sedated, and mostly feed on whatever floats by their mouth and which is usually subsurface. However, at times they are as active as ever, and love to eat the tiny dry flies floating by. Talk to the guides at the Drake, our fly fishing cabin, to find out how to experience this great opportunity.
Truffle Time
January marks the beginning of Tennessee Black Truffle Season – look for them on our menus throughout the month!
After Dinner
Dinner doesn’t have to stop with dessert. Finish your meal in our Gambrel Sitting area in the barn with a glass of Cognac, Port, Madeira or after dinner cocktail.
Score Big
It’s Bowl Game Time! Pick up some Heirloom Popcorn with Pimento Cheese, Heirloom Kettle Corn, Fromage Blanc and a Blackberry Farm Cheeseboard for a cocktail spread at your bowl game party.
Winter Trekking
Winter is our absolute favorite time of year for hiking in the Smoky Mountains. Join one of our guides as they lead you through a winter wonderland adventure. You can work together to pick the amount of time you want to spend out, as well as your route, and you will set out for some of the best hiking in the country.
January addition
In conjunction with a visit from Hirsch Vineyards during the Cali-Italia Epicurean event this year, we’ll be adding the Hirsch Vineyard wines to our list! You can try their own wine or the many versions of it from other superstar winemakers who have purchased grapes from the Hirsch Family over the years.
Geocaching Trails
This season, we are pleased to announce a brand new set of geo-caches on Walker Mountain. Using a GPS, your keen sense of sight, and a hand-detailed map (which contains a secret clue), you will find five caches. In each cache is an item to collect, and at the end of the journey a message will be revealed.
Shoot a Teal
January is a time to hunt many of the game bird species. Come to Smoky Mountain Sports Club, Blackberry’s private shooting club, to try your aim at some of our teals. These traps throw the clay high in the air, doing a great job of simulating incoming or going-away birds.
We’re Fungis
Seed sowing doesn’t stop in January. All month, we’ll be inoculating logs with a variety of edible mushroom spores for harvest next spring. Join us in the Garden to gain insight into the fascinating world of growing delicious culinary mushrooms. Winter Dry Fly Fishing
