Garden Month
Calling all green thumbs and garden lovers! Throughout August we will celebrate the bountiful produce coming from our fields and we will offer severalgarden-inspired programs. Guests will interact with our master gardener as well as our culinary team, learning techniques for better growing—whilesavoring the fresh flavors our fields have to offer in this dynamic season.

A Lifetime of Seeds
Participate in a discussion with Master Gardener John Coykendall about the rich and colorful history of heirloom seeds and the importance of their preservation.

Blackberry Through John’s Eyes
Tour the farm with Master Gardener John Coykendall to hear the history of Blackberry Farm, which he visited as a child. Listen as stories unfold aboutour area’s rich agricultural heritage and the evolution of the farm to what it is today.

Shelling Bee
Sit with the gardeners in the shade of the trees to participate in shelling and collecting seeds for next year’s planting. Learn the ins and outs of preserving heirloom seeds of tomatoes, okra, beans and many other varieties in this hands-on activity.

Beyond Organic
Spend time with the gardeners to learn some secrets about farming the natural way. We’ll talk about rotation, plant companions, insectaries and many other methods for growing vigorous crops without the need for harmful chemicals and sprays.

Eating Between the Rows
With Garden Manager Jeff Ross, walk the heirloom Garden and margins of the woods to forage and glean healthful and tasty edibles. Discover plants you may not know you can eat!

Tasty Tomatoes
Join us for a tasting of a selection of our heirloom tomato varieties. Come see which one is your favorite!
