Focus on shooting

There are so many reasons we enjoy shooting clay targets that it is sometimes hard to say what our favorite part of the experience is. When it comes to the presentations alone, it is amazing how many ways the trap machine can be set to offer the shooter a whole new opportunity and a totally different shot. These changes, though slight, can however ultimately be summed up into three basic categories: targets going away, incoming, or crossing. Because of this simplicity the sport is all about the advanced control of the basics. Of these basics, focus is arguably the most important. When you step into the stand to take your shot, the biggest object in the world should be the clay target. Your success of hitting that target is directly linked to your ability to block everything else out and focus on the clay. If you do this well, shooting the hardest target can be just like pointing your finger at it. If I was to pinpoint my favorite part of this sport, it would have to be learning how to focus. It is a skill that is invaluable in shooting, but in life as well, and there are few opportunities in today's world that offer you the chance to challenge yourself to focus in such an enjoyable way.
