Fly Fish This Fall
Fall is a great time for fly fishing. The weather is cooling, creating the perfect balanced temperature for spending time outside. Cool afternoons means prime conditions for midday fly fishing. Like in the Spring, Fall brings a surge of activity in the water. Migrating winged insects are near the water, bringing the fish to the surface to feed. Set aside some time this season to cast a line and observe the shifts in nature as Autumn takes over.
Fall is a great time for first-time fly fishers to try the sport. Learn about the perfect flies to tie for the season, stomp your boots into the crisp mountain waters and finesse the motion of the cast. The October Caddis hatch is a highlight of the month. It's one of the last big meals of the season, so the trout are alert and ready.
It's a great time of year to chase brook trout in the mountains. You can observe their bright spawning colors - orange bellies, red spots with blue halos and red fins. Brown trout are also getting ready to spawn, adapting vivid orange and yellow colors. Much like the leaves changing around the Farm, it's a colorful sight to see.
At Blackberry Farm, our fly fishing guides love teaching guests the skills and thrills of the sport. Whether you’re wading through Hesse Creek on property or adventuring into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, explore a new connection with nature as you step into the water.
