Flowers from the Farm
Just like our chefs and kitchen staff enjoy searching the gardens and surrounding woods for fresh grown ingredients, the floral department does foragingof their own. Glenda from the Blackberry Farm Floral team shared some of their favorite buds to find on the Farm in August and how to showcase them.
What flowers are you using for late Summer arrangements?
Sunflowers and zinnias. They grow beautifully at Blackberry Farm. Hydrangeas are always good too, and they’re blooming right now.
What inspires you when making arrangements for Summer events?
Knowing the details. It’s important to know what the guest wants, and beyond that, to know the guest. The more you get to know them, the more personalizedwe can make the florals. We make arrangements custom, so it’s always good to pay attention to details. If the guest is whimsical, we know we can be funand whimsical with the arrangement.
Do you use specific color schemes or a mix of colors?
Summer is all about being colorful! It does depend on the location, though. The wine cellar, for example, looks more elegant with neutrals, greens andwhites. For things like a Yallarhammer dinner or a long lunch, we make it welcoming with lots of bright colors.
What do you put into the arrangements to pair with the flowers?
Definitely greenery. We often use branches for texture. We also enjoy using berries, fruits and vegetables.
How do you collect your florals?
We forage! We explore the Farm and utilize what our beautiful property provides us.
