Festive Floral

The holiday season has arrived, and everywhere you look decorations are sparkling, glowing and showing off festive color! Christmas lights are a beautiful addition to the outdoors, but what about bringing the outside in? Floral Supervisor Elizabeth Daniels and the Blackberry Mountain Floral team are decking the halls with holiday floral inspired by the Mountain.

What Winter flowers are you using to decorate?
Elizabeth: I love to use Lenten roses, evergreens, pinecones, lichen branches and beech leaves gathered from property, as well as containers spilling over with cyclamen, amaryllis and mood moss.

What colors besides red and green are you using in floral arrangements?
We are using the Mountain’s signature hunter and chartreuse green again this year and adding colors that mirror some of the vivid shades from the Sycamore’s mural like orange, blue and shots of hot pink and purple!

What is your favorite holiday flower and why?
My favorite holiday flower is cyclamen! It’s such a hopeful little bloom, and the leaves are often dynamic all by themselves. They’re often variegated with each side of the leaf having its own texture and color.

What other Winter décor are you using beyond flowers?
This year we are going to use willow bark ornaments, lichen and beech branches to add light and textures to Christmas trees, as well as the garland and thousands of tiny lights. It’s our first year for outdoor lighting, and we’re excited to see it all come alive! We love the beautiful colors that moss provides – we will be using that throughout property – and we’ll have dashes of red from the pear trees and lichen.
