Fall Means Foxhunting to the Thrill Seeker
When the first cool Fall morning arrives, I am drawn to the sport I love. I find myself reflecting on the essence of the hunt, the mind numbing thrill of the chase, the magical element that wove its way into my life, and became a part of the fabric of my soul.
What about the hunt is so compelling? Is it the camaraderie of good friends with a common purpose, the shared experience, the exhilaration of outdoor adventure? What of the companionship of a good horse, whose feet you trust, whose heart is bold? Which is most gripping, the sound of the first hound voice of an early morn or the roar of the entire pack hot on its quarry? Is it leaping the hedge, fording the stream or galloping open country? What of the horn, calling us home? The warm fire, good wine, a hearty meal.
What good fortune, to live this life in the countryside! Who could live more fully, love more deeply or celebrate so well as the hunter with a horse and hounds?
If you are a lover of equines, of canines, of an outdoor lifestyle, if the concept of the mounted hunt has always intrigued you, the opportunity to partake is here, now. As our mentors, showed us the way to this exceptional sport, we will assist you.
Though not a sport for the faint of heart, to the longtime rider seeking an exciting outlet, or the novice equestrian searching for a niche, foxhunting may become the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. Start by spending some time in the saddle. Get to know a great horse well. Find your confidence in the walk, trot, canter basics — then get out of the ring, and learn to navigate terrain.
Seek a mentor.
Before long, you’ll be ready to ride to hounds, and we will assist you. At Blackberry, we offer instruction geared toward recreational riding and following hounds. We provide seminars in “The Romance of the Hunt”, protocol, traditions and an opportunity to meet the Masters of Foxhounds. We spend lots of time in the saddle.
As foxhunters, we love nothing better than introducing others to our sport. Are you ready to give it a try? Blackberry is offering four hunts exclusive to our guests this hunt season. They are Nov. 15, January 4, February 8, and March 7. We’re offering falconry and a footpack experience in the mix as well. Call me for details.
Then come spend some time with our experienced staff and embrace the robust outdoor lifestyle of the hunter. We’d love to have you.
