Decorating for Easter

Easter feels like a breath of fresh air after a long, cold Winter. It’s a time of celebration that welcomes in a sense of positivity, joy and happiness. An unofficial kickoff to Spring, the warm weather is accompanied by bright and welcoming pastels. Glenda from the Blackberry Farm Floral team shared some of her favorite buds to find on the Farm and how to decorate for the holiday.

What flowers are you using for Easter arrangements?
Easter is a time of celebration, and the traditional potted white lily is almost always present. While the white lily is the most popular Easter flower, daffodils, tulips, hyacinth and crocus make beautiful additions with a splash of color.

What are your favorite Spring flowers?
My favorite Spring flowers are the ones that bring a smile, but I truly love them all! If I had to choose, flowering dogwood branches are among my favorites. I love the dogwood for its beauty and meaning.

Do you use a specific color palette for your Easter arrangements?
Pastel colors are most common in Easter arrangements, but all white flowers have a deep spiritual meaning for many. I like to put a bit of yellow in most Spring arrangements because I think of it as “Spring sunshine”, and that makes everyone happy.

What are your recommendations on how to arrange them for a centerpiece?
I like to create a runner on my Easter dinner table by grouping any like containers together, like small baskets or pottery in neutral colors. I then add my flowers in small groups down the center of my table.

What are some fun ways to incorporate floral into the day other than the dining table?
I like to welcome my guests at the door with a huge Easter basket filled with tall, flowering branches, grass with colored eggs and a generous bunch of tulips flowing out. I also like using grapevine wreathe on my doors and windows, decorated with fresh ivy and Spring flowers.

Where do you find inspiration for your décor?
As Easter draws near, it’s a perfect time to plan decorations by being inspired by nature and being open to every form of beauty. Beautiful mosses found in the woods, twigs and branches with lichen, and ferns and stones all have a place in your botanical masterpiece alongside your colorful blooms. Be creative and original, and have fun while making your very own floral arrangement!
