Changing Gears

Changing Gears

The air is beginning to warm; the trees are starting to bloom. Flowers begin to poke through their dirt cover and break out of hibernation. Like the nature that surrounds you, you’re ready to welcome Spring. You’ve been active through the cold Winter months, but your riding gear could use some dusting off and a little oil to get things moving into the season. Many struggle through the Winter months to stay motivated. Warmer weather welcomes a fresh start. Here are some Spring riding transition tips to get you to clip in and get out:

• Set goals. Whether it’s length of ride, difficulty of ride or a combination, goals should progress as you progress.

• Follow a training schedule or create your own. Many group rides have suggested milestones you can aim for, and riding with a group is a great way to stay accountable.

• Do something every day. When a ride is not an option, you can strengthen your riding muscles in the gym or at home.

• Switch things up. Go for a mountain bike ride or get away from traffic on a gravel road. Gravel rides are great for wet days.

• Attend a spin class. Spin classes are an energetic alternative to outdoor riding and you get to enjoy the movement in a different environment.

• Find a good group to ride with. Most local bike shops offer group rides for all abilities. When you’re feeling low on motivation a group can create a really fun riding atmosphere.

• Track your progress. Celebrate your successes and enjoy how far you progress as you ride through the season.
