Capturing Fleeting Scenes and Moments in Time

Capturing Fleeting Scenes and Moments in Time

I had the pleasure of spending a late afternoon with Sarah Rau, who is our resident photographer here at Blackberry Farm. Sarah has a keen sense and talent for capturing what I refer to as fleeting moments, or sometimes mere seconds, capturing scenes which would otherwise be lost to time and unavailable for others to view and appreciate in years to come.

I love the early days of Fall when the days are shorter, the sun is at a lower angle in the sky and the late afternoon lighting accents our remaining crops in the fields with golden tones. Sarah’s keen eye for observation and subject matter captured studies of golden tan Kentucky field pumpkins, some of which were bathed in light and in shadow.

It is not an uncommon sight to see my bib overall pockets filled with dried field pea pods which have been gathered for seed saving purposes. This scene caught Sarah’s eye, and she captured a good study of brightly lit pea pods against a dark blue background.

Our field corn is now in its later stages of maturity, so I pulled back the shucks on several ears of white and yellow shoepeg corn, which also provided good subject matter to record.

Sarah has been with us here at Blackberry Farm for 15 years now, and over the years she has captured so many scenes and events which tell a wonderful story of the life, times and events that have taken place here over time.

I look forward to our working together for many more years to come, and the capturing of many more noteworthy scenes and subject matter.
