At the Barre
Wellness Manager Meghan Henley is breaking down the basics and benefits of barre in this quick Q&A. Engage your core, get ready to feel your muscles shake and enjoy the fun and challenge of barre class!
How do you describe barre to someone who hasn’t tried it?
Barre is a low impact, core strengthening fusion class inspired by ballet, Pilates, and yoga.
Explain why your muscles may shake during barre and how that’s an indicator that you’re doing the exercises correctly?
Although everyone is different, we may find a little (or a lot) of shaking in our legs due to challenging contraction holds. I’ve been doing it for years now and although I shake less, I still find myself quite shaky in class!
Cardio gets our heartrates up. Weight work improves our muscles. What would you say barre targets best or offers the most benefit for?
Although I may be inclined to say that barre targets and builds core strength, I must add that the small, controlled movements coupled with light weight helps to build long lean muscle mass in both upper and lower body.
Why would you recommend guests try out a barre class while they’re at Blackberry?
Whether you are looking for a low impact workout or an intense burn, this class welcomes all to strengthen and tone, improve posture and promote a mind-body connection.
