Arranged for Spring

Springtime brings an abundance of flowers, showing off their vibrant petals in the sunshine. Arranging cut flowers in vases at home is a quick and beautiful way to bring a little seasonal beauty inside with you, or dress up a table for any meal.

While all cut flowers have a shelf life, the Blackberry Mountain Floral team has a few tips for helping your indoor arrangements stay happy and healthy as long as possible.

How should you trim or prep cut flowers to put them in a vase?
Generally, we pull all of the greenery off the stems that will be immersed in water. This process helps prevent excessive algae growth which keeps the flowers healthier longer.

How often should you change the water in a vase of flowers?
On property, we refresh the water daily and clip a small bit off the end of the stems to allow the flowers to draw water more effectively. However, in your home, refreshing once or twice a week is sufficient to keep the flower arrangement looking its best.

Should vase water be a certain temperature?
We arrange our flowers and greenery in clean, cool water with floral food added. Cool water is good, but not overly cold. You don’t want a shocking temperature.

How often should you trim the stems?
Trim the stems when you refresh the water. Have a good pair of scissors that are sharp enough to make a clean cut so it’s easy and less messy.
