Appalachian Storm

A member of the Main House team, Michael Forster, was working on some rum cocktails and was reminded of a classic New Orleans Summer cocktail – the hurricane. He used that as his inspiration, and put a Blackberry twist on it, to create this flavorful Summer recipe, perfect for sipping on a hot day.

Appalachian Storm
1 oz. Don Q rum
1 oz. Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva rum
2 oz. blackberry mint simple syrup*
½ oz. lime juice
½ oz. pineapple juice
Club soda

Add all ingredients into a shaker tin with ice, and shake to mix. Strain into a glass over fresh ice. Top with club soda to fill your glass. For a fun garnish, wrap a mint leaf around a fresh blackberry and skewer on a toothpick. Cheers!

*Blackberry Mint Simple Syrup
At the Main House, we double this recipe to make more at one time.
Handful of mint
1 6 oz. container of blackberries
1 Tablespoons lemon juice
2 cups sugar
1 cups water

Put the blackberries into a two-quart container. Add mint, lemon juice and water. Muddle for five minutes. Double-strain your muddled mixture, then add 1 cups of sugar to the container. Top with boiling water and stir until the sugar is completely dissolved. Store in the refrigerator.
