A Side of Tradition

A Side of Tradition

The week of Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on this past year as you gather with friends and family around the dinner table. From sweet potato casserole to stuffing, we all have a specific side dish we most look forward to each year on Thanksgiving. Hear from some of the Blackberry team about their favorite dish and why they cherish it.

“My wife’s boursin mashed potatoes! I introduced her to a ricer a few years ago, and she has mastered the perfect mashed potatoes. Other than mac and cheese out of the box, it’s the only thing she can cook, but it is amazing!”
– Jim Domanic, General Manager of Blackberry Mountain

“Growing up in a Cuban household, Thanksgiving was the only day of the year my mom would cook “American” food. My favorite dish was always stuffing, but honestly I loved all of it — sweet potatoes, gravy, cranberry, etc.”
– Kelly Giro Schmidt, Assistant Director of Beverage at Blackberry Farm

“I love making corn casserole. It’s a comfort food for me, and I like the tradition of doing it every year. (And it’s very easy to make!) It’s also gluten-free for the friends and family who need that.”
– Kelley Harris, Senior Director of Guest Experiences

“My family teases me every year because I can’t help but bring something green! I love neutralizing all the decadence with a crunchy kale salad dressed with mustard vinaigrette and topped with broiled sweet potatoes, honey crisp apples and good cracked pepper."
– Meghan Henley, Wellness Manager at Blackberry Mountain

“Annie’s dressing is my favorite! My grandmother, who we fondly called “Annie”, had a dressing recipe that was somewhat famous in our small town in South Mississippi. I spent every Thanksgiving as a young person in the kitchen with her learning to make that dressing, and it will always be on our family’s Thanksgiving table, not only because it’s delicious, but as a way to remember her.”
– Katherine Griffin, Senior Events Manager

“My new favorite Thanksgiving side dish is my aunt’s spring rolls! My uncle’s wife is Filipino, and a new tradition she brought to our family was mixing traditional American food with Filipino food. Since then, her spring rolls have become one of my favorite holiday dishes!”
– Kimmy Allen, Event Manager

“My favorite Thanksgiving side dish is definitely stuffing. I like it with a good amount of sage in the mix and when it’s cooked as a casserole so that it has a crispy top.”
– Andy Chabot, Vice President of Food & Beverage
