A Body in Motion
The calendar page turns, and there’s an entire year ahead full of possibilities. The Blackberry team is embracing the year with energy and positivity. One way our team loves to do that is by staying active – dedicating a little time each day to movement whether they’re dancing to a favorite song in their living room or enjoying a deep stretch at the end of the day. Hear from some of the Blackberry team about their go-to ways to move. How are you moving into the new year?
In the warmer months, I try to ride my bike as much as possible, but as it’s gotten colder, I’ve found that I actually really enjoy splitting firewood! It gets me moving even when it’s cold out, and I find it very satisfying.
- Joey Edwards, Executive Chef of Three Sisters at Blackberry Mountain
I use a spin bike at home every morning with the Peloton app, followed by two 20-minute walks with my dogs – once in the morning and once at night.
- Kathy Rivard, Blackberry Farm Spa and Wellness Director
My favorite way to move used to be running. But since getting talked into a road bike last Spring – coupled with the strong cycling culture at Blackberry and some friends of the brewery – getting out and discovering this beautiful area has quickly moved up the ranks. And I can cover so much more ground!
- Travis Hixon, Blackberry Farm Brewery Brewmaster
My magic combo is early morning weekday CrossFit and weekend yoga and mountain biking – with handstands as often as possible!
- Dr. Jill Beasley, Blackberry Mountain Holistic Health Specialist
2020 was a year that moved all of us in different ways. I found myself moving toward the things that gave me the most comfort and always have: being outdoors, discovering new places and moving myself to new experiences. I always feel best starting the day moving my body and discovering new paths.
- Elizabeth Daniels, Blackberry Mountain Floral Supervisor
I’m a believer in consistency and follow daily workouts. I also love taking my dog, Charley, on walks through our neighborhood. Fresh air is good for the soul, and I use that time to catch up with my grandmother.
- Samantha Feurer, Assistant Director of Blackberry Farm Design
I love how with yoga I can be still, yet use my breath to loosen the tightness in my muscles, strengthen my mind-body connection and re-emerge after an hour or so a totally different person. Yoga is like giving your internal organs, muscles, mind and spirit a daily massage!
- Sarah Steffan, Executive Chef of The Dogwood at Blackberry Farm®
Breathe and dance on repeat all day long here! And my team often finds me in the middle of hallway handstands. I look forward to time on my bike or a long trail run to clear my head, but three minutes to breathe or a one song dance break are always accessible and a quick mood change!
- Hope Parks, Blackberry Farm Wellness Manager
I love riding my mountain bike around the fence rows of my personal farm. It’s a great way to get outside and enjoy a little adrenaline rush.
- Dustin Busby, Blackberry Farm Farmstead Manager
I personally love any opportunity I can get for a walk. Whether that is as intensive as a hike in the woods or as simple as walking from my office over to the Wellhouse to check in with the team and guests there, I relish the opportunity to move my legs and check out my surroundings.
- Kelley Harris, Blackberry Senior Director of Guest Experiences
My way to move into the new year is to set a mantra or intention. I can use it to help push myself in any scenario. I remind myself of it all year long and it motivates me to take on the year!
- Matt Poli, Mixologist and Sommelier at Three Sisters at Blackberry Mountain
