3 Reasons to Write it Down

Writing in a journal creates a personal space for expression and mindfulness. When you bring your pen to the page, you are present in the moment connecting your thoughts. Journaling is beneficial in self-health and creativity as well as a beautiful way to memorialize your life.

Journaling doesn’t come with rules attached. You can journal in a way that feels natural for you and allows you to express on the page exactly what you want to. As you begin moving into a new Fall, try picking a blank book and enjoying the benefits of writing down your season.

1. Refresh Your Mind
Try journaling first thing in the morning. Empty your mind of the thoughts running through your head. You’ll find yourself feeling lighter and open to absorbing more of what is around you. Make a to-do list for your day so you aren’t worried about ranking your priorities on your morning commute, write down what’s been weighing on you and allow yourself to feel a little lighter as you take on a new day, or begin your morning with a statement of gratitude, setting the tone for the rest of your day. Journaling helps focus and engage the mind and creates a space for mindfulness.

2. Record Your Memories
Whether it’s two sentences or pages of detail, a journal is a great way to memorialize your days. If you don’t gravitate toward writing, try committing to just a few lines each day – a simple summary of how you felt that day. It creates a personalized highlight reel of wonderful moments in your life that you can revisit.

3. Get Creative
Often we ignore our creativity because we get distracted by everything else happening around us. Allowing yourself to write freely on the page will put you in a comfortable space for ideas to generate. Don’t think about what to write, or how to write it – just write. As you let your thoughts come out onto the page, ideas will begin to generate, and you’ll tap into creative inclinations that can otherwise get pushed aside in the day-to-day. That energy will carry over into the rest of your day.

Journaling isn’t limited to words. Drawing and sketching through your pages invites the same benefits. The power of a blank book is endless. Open your journal and see where it leads you.
