John Alban
Hospice du Rhône Founder
John Alban of Alban Vineyards is the Founding Director of Hospice du Rhône and has become, by all measures, a pioneer of Rhône-style wines in California, particularly Viognier. He established his Alban Vineyards brand in 1989, becoming the first in America to specialize exclusively in Rhône varieties. The pioneer of Rhône Ranger wines in the Central Coast, Alban Vineyards has become an educational center and mecca for young winemakers who want to pursue careers in Syrah, Grenache, Roussanne, Viognier and Mourvedre. A question frequently asked is, “Why has no one else in the Edna Valley captured the extraordinary magic he has from his hillside vineyards?”
