Have you ever eaten a food that pushed you out of your comfort zone? What is the most unique or strangest thing you’ve ever eaten?
Stinky tofu. An excerpt from Wikipedia says “From a distance, the odor of stinky tofu is said to resemble that of rotten garbage or smelly feet. Some people have compared it to the taste of blue cheese, while others have compared it to rotten meat. It is said that the more it smells, the better its flavor.”
Where did you eat it?
Guangzhou, China. We went there specifically so we could try foods that you wouldn’t see anywhere else.
Did you go into it willingly by ordering them, were you persuaded to try them, or were you dared?
I went willingly, but once I smelled it from a few blocks away, my wife, Emily, had to dare me to eat it.Were you surprised by it? Would you recommend it?
I thought the flavor was actually very delicious, but the smell is really bad. I would try it again! I love pushing myself out of the thin lining of whatever comfort zone I have.
Have you ordered it since or attempted to recreate it in any way?
I have not, but that is mainly because I haven’t been back to China. I’m not sure that my neighborhood, or zip code rather, would be happy I was cooking this dish in my backyard.
