First Drink in Heaven

The music of legendary singer-songwriter and friend of Blackberry John Prine left an impression on fans and colleagues in and out of the music industry. Inspired by his song “When I Get to Heaven,” the Dogwood Beverage team created this cocktail to honor John and his music.

Ingredients:
1.5 oz. Cathead Vodka
.75 oz. ginger syrup*
.5 oz. lemon juice
3 dashes Angostura bitters

To mix:
Add all ingredients to a collins glass filled with ice.
Top with ginger ale. (At Blackberry, we use Fever-Tree.)
Garnish with a lemon peel.

*To make the fresh ginger syrup:
1 cup sugar
1 cup fresh ginger
1 cup hot water
Makes about 3 cups

Add all ingredients to a high-powered blender.
Blend until fully puréed.
Strain into a container, and store until you’re ready to use.
